Fantzye was born on the isLand of Martha’s Vineyard in the faLL of 2020.
When owner Elana Carlson and team first began, the only way to get Fantzye was to pre-order our “bagel kits” for weekend pick-up from a rotation of artists’ workshops we partnered with on the island, offering a weekly opportunity for connection in a time of isolation.
The name comes from the yiddish word for, you guessed it: fancy.
We made things official in the Summer of 2021, partnering with State Road Restaurant on Sundays for a weekly bagel extravaganza.
With housemade pickles and schmear, we spread the gospel of bagels.
As word spread and Lines got Longer, we started thinking bigger.
In 2022, we found ourselves with a beat-up food trailer, setting our sights on a food vendor spot at the West Tisbury Farmers Market; one of the busiest on the East Coast.
With hard work, things came together.
and our new Fantzye TraiLer was born.
We made our debut in June, serving up a menu of bagel sandwiches showcasing island produce,
alongside the farm stands.
That summer, lines were long, demand was high, and Fantzye was named Best New Business by Martha’s Vineyard Magazine.
All the while, we hosted events, pop-ups, and, private dinners under our catering arm, Fantzye Suppers.
These were good times in the Land of Fantzye, aLbeit short-Lived.
In the fall of 2022, our commercial production space was purchased, leaving us without a kitchen and in search of a new home.
We used the setback as an opportunity to shake things up, bring Fantzye to the mainland, and say hello to the Hudson Valley!
We are so happy to be here.
